Same-sex couples can convert their civil partnership into a marriage as long their civil partnership took place in England or Wales. Opposite-sex couples are not able to convert their civil partnership to a marriage, as the choice of either a marriage or civil partnership was available to them at the time of their ceremony.
The conversion process can be completed in one of two ways. A simple administrative process at one of our four Register Offices, or you can choose to celebrate with family and friends with a bespoke celebration ceremony.
Whatever you decide you will both required to attend an appointment at the Register Office to complete the necessary paperwork and provide:
• Your original civil partnership certificate
• Proof of identity
• Proof of address

In addition to the fees above, marriage certificates cost £11 each.
Your marriage certificates will be dated from the date your civil partnership was formed.
